A large single-pass membrane protein, not a short peptide: the human protein is 1012 amino acids long (UniProt Q9UEF7), and PubChem has no compound record for it, so no formula is shown. Its extracellular domain is cleaved and released into the circulation (soluble Klotho). Not the same protein as β-Klotho (gene KLB), although the PubMed query below also matches β-Klotho records.
How it has been studied
Most published Klotho research is about the body's own protein and its gene: Klotho-deficient (kl/kl) and knockout mice, haploinsufficient mice with one working copy of the gene, and transgenic mice that overexpress Klotho. A smaller set of animal studies gave recombinant α-Klotho protein (its extracellular domain) or a Klotho protein fragment. We found no published study of a product sold as a research vial, and no published study that gave Klotho protein to people.
